Walberton bus passengers set to wait in style

Bus users in Walberton will wait in comfort thanks to a new bus shelter due to funding provided to the Joint Downland Area Committee by Arun District Council.

A grant of £3,675 was given to Walberton Parish Council, with the parish council paying an additional £1,225 to fund the £4,900 bus shelter.

It will be made of oak by a local company and will be in keeping with the conservation area. The shelter will be located at The Street and seats up to three people.

Councillor Andy Siragher, Chairman of Walberton Parish Council, said: “The bus shelter will provide much needed comfort to those waiting for public transport especially during the winter months.

“I am delighted to say the parish council has listened to local villagers about the location of the bus shelter, the design and material used.”

Councillor Paul Dendle, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Amenities, ward member for Arundel and Walberton and Joint Downland Area Committee member, said: “I am really pleased a local company has been used to design this stylish yet practical wooden bus shelter which will be of benefit to everyone in Walberton and the surrounding area.

“Having a welcoming place for people to wait for their bus plays an important part in encouraging people to make more use of local bus services and helps reduce congestion on our roads.”

The Joint Downland Committee is comprised of councillors from Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council and town and parish councils. The committee decides on the amount of grants to give to community causes which help the Downland area.
