This Girl Can Week - Isabel Thurston

This week is This Girl Can Week, the campaign encourages women and girls of all shapes, sizes, abilities and backgrounds to get active. Throughout the week we will be sharing stories from our female Councillors. Today we hear from Cllr Isabel Thurston.
"My love of walking goes back to childhood. I wasn’t particularly sporty and often sat reading for hours, but I loved walking the family dog and I noticed I felt physically better when I did so.
In early adult life a full-on job meant walking was for holidays until I went part time and acquired another dog when my own children were young. For fifteen years now, my faithful lurcher Ebony and I have been discovering the paths around our house in Barnham, the coast around Climping, the woods at Binsted and of course the downs at Slindon and beyond. Put simply, walking keeps you fit, but the reason I love it is that I love to be out in the fresh air surrounded by wildflowers and trees. Nothing beats the changing seasons - the wide awake sensation of striding through snow or frost, the colours of autumn, the hopeful new green of spring and sultry, warm summer days.
You can walk as fast or slow as you want, pop in a little jog if you feel like it, but most of all it’s an easy way to build regular exercise into your daily routine."
