The Arcade, Bognor Regis update 21 March 2024
We are pleased that we are now in a position where we can start sharing regular updates on the Arcade in Bognor Regis.
A range of internal and external surveys and site investigations have been taking place in The Arcade. These surveys have informed the project team of the current condition of the building, preliminary designs and costings.
A tender process is now underway to appoint a contractor to do the grant funded ‘enabling’ work to prepare the building for its regeneration. The regeneration plans, comprising new homes and retail space at The Arcade, will be subject to a planning application will be submitted to Arun District Council later in 2024.
Separately, our estates team is doing the roof repairs. These are due to be completed by late spring-early summer. We continue to maintain a regular dialogue with tenants in The Arcade.
On a practical level, work started with the scaffolding going up in September 2023. Roofing work started in November 2023 with every intention to complete early in the new year (2024).
Soon after stripping the roof, we uncovered many structural defects that had to be addressed before doing the actual roofing work. Work resumed in early January 2024. Due to circumstances outside of our control this was delayed, but we are pleased to report that work is now progressing.
Last week most of the structural repairs were complete. Additional carpentry work is ongoing.
Unfortunately, and frustratingly, last week one of the lead flat roofs was stolen, which will delay things while we complete the process to replace it.
We have asked the contractors to do a weekly clean from around the Heras fencing and scaffolding within the Arcade, and we will be keeping dealing with the pigeon droppings too.
