Statement from Cllr Stanley - Leader of the Council
The shock of the devastation caused by the fire at the Harvester yesterday is still at the front of my mind this morning. I want to thank the incredible efforts of the emergency services for working all day and through the night to control the blaze. Arun District Council staff from across the organisation worked tirelessly yesterday, along with our partners at Freedom Leisure and Mitchell & Butler to manage the situation.
There is no doubt that this incident will have a far reaching impact and our thoughts are particularly with the staff from the Harvester who have lost their place of work, and in some instances, their homes too. Local residents, businesses and visitors will all be affected.
There is now a complex process to follow as we enter the recovery phase, and we ask for patience and understanding as we start that work.
