Second instalment of the cost-of-living payments

2nd cost of living payment Over 8 million households in the UK will receive a second cost-of-living payment from 31 October 2023, with a third payment due to  be made to eligible households by spring 2024.

The payments are tax-free and will not count toward the benefit cap or impact any current benefit awards.

Those who are eligible will be paid automatically, you do not need to apply for the payment or do anything to receive it.

If you are receiving Universal Credit (UC) you are eligible for the payment of £300 if you were entitled to a payment (or later found to be entitled to a payment) of UC for an assessment period that ended in the period 18 August 2023 to 17 September 2023.

If you are receiving either Income-based JSA, income-based ESA, Income Support or Pension Credit you are eligible for the payment of £300 if you were entitled to a payment (or later found to be entitled to a payment) of such benefit for any day in the period 18 August 2023 to 17 September 2023.

If you receive Tax credits you are eligible for the payment of £300 if you received a payment of tax credits for any day in the period 18 August 2023 to 17 September 2023, or if you later receive a payment for any day in that period.
