Rockpool Wildlife
Have you ever seen blobs of what look like wobbly, red jelly on rocks at low tide?

These are Anemones and as the tide comes back in you will see them open out their tentacles to catch shrimp, prawns, crabs and small fish as they pass by in the sea water. People often think they are a plant but actually they are related to jellyfish.

The most commonly seen anemones, the Beadlet Anemone are those red blobs of jelly that are named after the circle of blue beads that can be seen around the top of the stem of the creature. Beadlets can also be found in other colours ranging from green to orange.

The other anemone commonly found along our shores is the Snakelock Anemone which like to be in the sunny positions in a rockpool. There are about a dozen species to be found in the UK so why not see what you can find on your next trip to the beach?

Please leave all anemones where they are and just enjoy watching them or taking pictures.
