Planning application submitted for Littlehampton Seafront project
A planning application has been submitted for the transformation of an area of Littlehampton seafront to make it more vibrant.
Design and build contractor, Neilcott Construction, appointed for the design and construction phase of the Littlehampton Seafront Scheme, has been progressing the designs and selecting the best materials for the seafront.
They have also prepared and submitted a planning application, which can be viewed on the council’s Planning application search | Arun District Council under the reference number LU/246/23/PL.
Changes to the original design include improvements to the visual appearance of the car park and an improved ‘welcome’ for pedestrians arriving from South Terrace.
The aim of the scheme is to improve the seafront as a destination for visitors to boost tourism, as well as making it more attractive to local residents.
Activities in the plan include water play, beach volleyball, basketball and pétanque as well as sensory play and relaxation. A new toilet block will increase capacity at busy times and concession units at Banjo Road are set to attract new businesses.
Work on the project, funded by £7.2m from the Levelling Up Fund, is expected to begin in early 2024.
Councillor Matt Stanley, Leader of Arun District Council and Chair of the Policy and Finance Committee, said:
“We are delighted to see good progress being made on this project to invigorate Littlehampton seafront, using government Levelling Up funding successfully bid for in 2021. We are looking forward to seeing the scheme take shape early next year.”
