Notice of Parish Poll

Bognor Regis Byelections

A Parish Poll will be held in Bognor Regis on Wednesday, 13 April 2016.

Unlike local elections, voters will only be able to vote between the hours of 4pm and 9pm. And can only vote at a polling station.  Rules that govern parish polls do not allow electors to vote by post nor do they allow for poll cards be issued as notification of the poll.

To be eligible to vote for this poll electors must have been registered by 5 April 2016 and live in one of the six wards in the Bognor Regis Town Council area.

Electors must vote at the polling station that covers their town ward.  For most electors who voted in the May 2015 local elections or the by-elections in the town in December 2015, their polling station will remain unchanged.  However, voters who normally go to St Wilfrids Church Hall in Ellasdale Road, Bognor Regis, will need to go to The Waverley, Marine Drive West, Bognor Regis.  The polling stations are:

  • Laburnum Centre, Lyon Street, Bognor Regis
  • John Parry Lecture Room, University of Chichester, Upper Bognor Road, Bognor Regis
  • The Waverley, Marine Drive West, Bognor Regis
  • Methodist Church Hall, High Street, Bognor Regis
  • Jeneses - Community Arts Centre, Linden Road, Bognor Regis  [2 polling stations]
  • Bognor Regis Youth & Community Centre, Westloats Lane, Bognor Regis [2 polling stations]
  • South Bersted Church Hall, Bersted Street, Bognor Regis

Full details of the polling stations and the three questions that eligible electors will be asked to vote on are included in the Notice of Poll. This can be viewed on our Parish Poll page, at the Arun Civic Centre in Littlehampton and Bognor Regis Town Hall and on notices throughout the town area.

The Parish Poll was demanded at the annual meeting of electors in Bognor Regis held on 14 March 2016.  It is Arun’s Returning Officer, Nigel Lynn, who organises and manages the poll, whilst Bognor Regis Town Council will bear the cost. Nigel Lynn said: “We are aware that the procedures surrounding this Parish Poll are very different to those involved with elections such as the, soon to be held, Police and Crime Commission election and the EU Referendum. All the information needed is available on the Arun District Council website and we trust that eligible voters will visit their allocated polling station to vote.”

Anyone needing to check if they are registered to vote for this poll, or to find out their polling station, should contact Arun District Council Electoral Services helpline on Tel: 01903 737616 or Email: elections@arun.gov.uk

The results of a parish poll are not binding on the Town Council.
