National Tree Week 2024 (23 November to 1 December)
Tomorrow is the start of National Tree Week 2024, first celebrated by The Tree Council and partners in 1975. This day brings together the conservation sector, volunteers and tree-lovers to mark the start of the annual tree planting season.
It's a day that celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of trees, for the benefit of current and future generations.
Forests have an important role as carbon sinks. About 30% of carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels are taken in by forests. They are also valuable ecosystems, containing around 80% of all biodiversity on land.

Arun District Council's Tree Planting Strategy aims to have planted more than 30,000 trees by 2031, and therefore remove carbon from the atmosphere, improve biodiversity, and enhance the appearance of the district.
If you are able to, consider planting trees in your gardens and help absorb carbon from the atmosphere and improve wildlife in your area.
