Message from the Environment Agency

EA V2 West Sussex has had over 200mm of rain in the last two weeks and river levels in the Aldingbourne Rife have risen to their highest ever level. Due to the flat nature of this area, increasing the pumping capacity to move water would not be of any benefit.

Currently our pumps are operating well, however they have been working constantly for 10 days to help lower water levels. The Environment Agency are planning to deploy two contingency pumps at Felpham Pump Station from Wednesday 8th November. This is to provide resilience if our pumps were to fail or if the power supply were to be impacted.

Once deployed, the promenade at Bognor Regis will be closed and a footpath diversion will be in place directing people around the site – please see map below to show the diversion route. It is expected pumps will be in place for around two weeks.
