Make big energy savings this winter

Help is on hand for those struggling to heat their home or pay energy bills this winter.

Arun District Council’s Energy Efficiency Officer and Home Energy Visitors are partnering with Citizens Advice to promote Big Energy Saving Week, which starts on Monday, 31 October, at an event in Littlehampton.

The event takes place from 9am to 2.30pm on Friday, 4 November at Littlehampton Market in the town centre.

Emma Pagett, Home Energy Visitor at Arun District Council, said: “Your home should be heated to at least 18 degrees Celsius (65 degrees Fahrenheit) if possible to prevent colds, flu or more serious health conditions.

“Find out what financial support you may be entitled to which will help make your home more energy efficient, improve the warmth of your home and help with reducing your energy bills.”

Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Energy bills can be a big financial concern for households, and Big Energy Saving Week focuses on raising public awareness of how to take control of bills, switch energy supplier or tariff to get the best deal and keep your home as warm as necessary.

“I would also encourage as many people as possible to investigate whether they are eligible for the Warm Home Discount. Those who are eligible could save £140 off electricity bills.”

There is also information available on financial help towards more efficient heating, central heating and home insulation and advice on how to sign up to the Priority Service Register.

Carol Groves, Chief Executive Officer at Citizens Advice Arun and Chichester, said: “Checking your energy tariff and switching to a cheaper deal is one of the easiest ways for people to reduce their bills.

“We can support you through the comparison process in order to find a cheaper tariff. Big Energy Saving Week is a great opportunity to get advice before the winter sets in.”
