Littlehampton now coasting ahead

Have your say on Littlehampton Town Centre’s design

Arun District Council has been successful with a Coastal Revival Fund grant of nearly £50,000 for Littlehampton, which is great news for the area.

The Government grant, which is specific to seaside areas, offers a huge boost for Littlehampton.

The £49,150 grant from the Coastal Revival Fund will support the important work of creating detailed design plans which will showcase the town’s heritage and enhance the pedestrian connectivity, landscaping and public realm for the benefit of residents and visitors.

The Coastal Revival Fund will now boost and extend the overall scope of the project to incorporate quality designs that link from the Town Centre, to the Seafront and interconnect to the impressive, newly developed East Bank riverside walkway.

Councillor Mrs Gillian Brown, Leader of Arun District Council and Cabinet Member for Council Strategy, said: “I am absolutely delighted the Council has been awarded this funding which will help enhance Littlehampton.

“This is a real achievement because there were so many entries for this grant. The money will be spent on improvements which will continue the process of making Littlehampton a more appealing and attractive destination to visit and for residents to be proud of.”

Littlehampton is one of 15 projects along the coast benefiting from a share of £700,000 which is being spent across the nation and a maximum of £50,000 is up for grabs for each successful applicant.

The Government hopes that the work will encourage a wave of enthusiasm for trips to our much-loved seaside areas – and help boost the £4billion that tourism generates for coastal communities every year.

Communities Minister Rt Hon Mark Francois MP said: “Across our Great British Coast we’ve got heritage hooks to be proud of, but some of these places need some tender, loving, care.

“That’s why over the past year the Government has invested £3.7million to get them back into ship-shape and now Littlehampton and 14 more brilliant British attractions will be buoyed up by work to restore them to their former glory.

“This country has sight-seeing gems that are a match for anywhere in the world and I’d urge people to take a trip down to the seaside to discover them.”
