Littlehampton Bonfire – controlled burning 31.10.23

bonfire A controlled burning of the Littlehampton bonfire is due to take place today. Because of the recent heavy rainfall, the wood is very wet and likely to create a lot of smoke once the bonfire is lit. Please close your windows if you live in the vicinity and for your own safety, please don’t go and watch. Car parking in the area is restricted.

At a meeting on Monday, concerns were raised about the controlled burning due to the current unpredictable weather and impending storm. Further concerns were raised about the lack of fire and rescue resource as all local crews are still dealing with the heavy flooding parts of the district suffered over the weekend, and therefore the ability to monitor the burn which can take up to 36 hours to complete.

The Bonfire Society has now secured attendance from the Fire Rescue Service Charity which will allow the burn to proceed.
