Information - Flooding in Aldwick

Yesterday we were made aware of localised flooding at Fish Lane and Aldwick Avenue in Aldwick following heavy rainfall. The road was closed by West Sussex County Council as it was impassable for a while.

The flooding was due to a blocked outfall which our records show is an unadopted asset.

However, we know that it was important to resolve the issue and made arrangements to clear the outfall urgently. Because the outfall is in an intertidal zone, it makes clearance more complex requiring work to be co-ordinated around low tide.

The work was completed, flood levels significantly reduced, and the road opened.

A meeting will take place with Southern Water to resolve responsibility for future maintenance.
