Historic County Flags Day 23 July – Fly your county flag!

County FlagWe will be flying our county flag this weekend at the Civic Centre in Littlehampton and at Bognor Town Hall to mark Historic County Flags Day.

Across England, Scotland and Wales councils mark this event locally, celebrating national and local history.

Councils are encouraged, where possible, to fly their county flag on this date. In support of celebrations, the government will be once again be flying in Parliament Square Gardens, from 20 July through to 26 July, the 53 registered flags of the historic counties of Great Britain, alongside the Union Flag. In addition to any local celebrations, council representatives together with MPs and other interested local representatives are invited to come and see the display in person.

You can find the full list of registered flags on the Flag Institute website. Counties who do not at present have a registered historic county flag can make contact with the Flag Institute who can advise on how to do so in future.
