Gypsy and Traveller public consultation launches

Gypsy consultation Arun District Council is launching a public consultation about the needs and provision for the Gypsy, Traveller and Showpeople community.

Under the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 a Regulation 19 stage public consultation is being undertaken on the soundness and legal compliance of the Gypsy and Traveller and Traveller Showpeople Site Allocations Development Plan Document (G and T DPD).

We are consulting on The Regulation 19 G and T DPD from 13 December 2023 until 5pm on 7 February 2024.

The council is required to plan for the needs of Gypsy and Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in accordance with Government guidance.

The Regulation 19 Gypsy and Traveller and Traveller Showpeople Site Allocations Development Plan Document (G and T DPD) proposes to meet the identified need for nine permanent Gypsy and Traveller pitches and 14 permanent Traveller Showpeople plots over the period 2018 - 2036. This provision is set out through small scale intensification on existing sites and one new site as a broad location to accommodate one pitch, at Little Meadow, Yapton (ARU-HELAA-46b) towards the end of the plan period.

The G and T DPD, sustainability appraisal and other supporting documents can be viewed throughout the consultation period at Arun Civic Centre in Littlehampton and Bognor Regis Town Hall and is also available at the libraries in the Arun district and on the council’s website Gypsies and Travellers - planning policy | Arun District Council

The public is encouraged to respond using the council’s consultation portal as the most efficient and accurate way to capture your representation:  Consultation Home - Keystone (objective.co.uk)

If this is not possible, we will also accept written responses by post to: Planning Policy and Conservation, Arun District Council, Arun Civic Centre, Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, BN17 5LF, or by email to localplan@arun.gov.uk

Only representations received using one of the methods above by the stated deadline of 5pm on 7 February 2024 can be accepted. Anonymous comments will not be accepted – all comments received will be included on our website (including your name but not your address or email details).
