Get WISE to a healthier lifestyle - 3rd March 2015

A FREE workshop for people who wish to lose weight and learn more about leading a healthy lifestyle is set to begin in East Preston.

This 12-week course will include a weekly interactive nutritional talk followed by a 30-minute gentle activity class, designed to show you easy ways of getting your heart rate up which can also be done at home.

It is designed for people with who are concerned that they are overweight or and would like help and support to become more healthy.

The week course starts on Thursday 5 March at East Preston and Kingston Village Hall, Sea Road, East Preston, BN16 1LP (there is wheelchair access and limited parking available at this venue), and runs from 10am to 11.30am, with 30 minutes of gentle activity included for 7 of the 12 weeks (there is no session on 7th May).

The WISE (Weight Information, Sensible Eating) course also includes advice on how to shop for healthier food on a budget and making sense of food labels.

Sarah, who attended a WISE course last year, said: “Since attending WISE I have started being more active which has given me more energy and I make healthier choices when deciding what to eat.”

Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, Arun District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “We know that losing weight and increasing activity levels can be challenging and making the right choices of what to eat can be confusing. This is why the WISE course is so fantastic. The staff can help introduce you to a more nutritious diet and teach you gentle exercise techniques to boost fitness and energy levels. You will be able to meet others who are making the same changes as you so you can support each other.”
