Funding for fences and lighting at Findon sports pitch approved | Latest news

Children and young people in Findon will soon enjoy playing their favourite sports on a pitch with fencing and lighting.

A grant of £13,000 from Arun District Council covered the funding of the fencing and lighting to be built around the sports pitch at Glebe Land, behind Findon Village Hall. The District Council money was awarded by the Joint Downland Area Committee.

Cllr Dudley Wensley, Deputy Leader of Arun District Council and a Joint Downland Committee Member, said: “I am pleased the committee has agreed to the fencing and lighting around the sports pitch at Glebe Land. 

“I hope it will encourage children and young people to use the pitch more often as it is well documented regular exercise will keep them fit and healthy.  Also, the lighting is timed to switch off automatically at 9pm so as not to disturb anyone at night.”

The Joint Downland Committee is comprised of councillors from Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council, and town and parish councils. The committee decides on the amount of grants to give to community causes which help the Downland area.

Cllr Peter Goldsworthy, Chairman of Findon Parish Council, said: “I am extremely grateful that the Joint Downland Area Committee has decided to award a grant for the fencing and lighting at the sports pitch at the Glebe Land. This funding will be a real asset to the village and allow for the pitches to be used in the evening.
“As we all know, doing sport and exercise regularly leads to a healthier lifestyle. I hope the improvements to this sport pitch will encourage more people to use it.”
