Free CPR training for Littlehampton traders, employees and residents

Learning how to use a technique which could potentially save lives is an essential skill for all the community. Arun District Council is providing free Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training sessions in Littlehampton.
In partnership with Arun District Council, the traders have asked the local Community First Responders (CFRs) to provide this free CPR training. The sessions, which will be run at the Arun Civic Centre in Littlehampton, will give people basic skills in applying CPR. A defibrillator was recently installed in the High Street by Littlehampton Traders’ Partnership with support from local businesses, residents and the British Heart Foundation.
Local CFR, Anthony Hopkins, said: “When someone suffers a cardiac arrest their chance of survival drops by approximately ten to 15 per cent for every minute that they go without CPR.
“It is therefore vital that as many people as possible know what to do when such an emergency occurs. CPR is very easy to do and can be effectively performed by anyone with a basic level of fitness and the will to make a difference. Public access defibrillators such as the one on the High Street in Littlehampton are very easy to use.
“A common myth is that using one can make the situation worse, this is totally untrue, and using one can not cause any harm to another person. They give clear, concise instructions and will only deliver a shock to a patient if the inbuilt computer detects a need for the shock”.
Celia Thomson-Hitchcock, Owner and Manager of Ahead to Toe beauty salon in Littlehampton, said: “We are really happy to work with partners in setting up these sessions. There has been an increased awareness of CPR as a lifesaving technique that can be carried out by practically anyone. Early application of CPR could potentially save lives as early treatment can be a major factor whether someone survives having a heart attack.”
Two training sessions will be held on:
Wednesday 20 January at 6pm
Wednesday 20 January at 7pm
Both will take place at the Arun Civic Centre, Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, BN17 5LF.
