Earth Day
Today is Earth Day and this year’s theme is ‘invest in our planet’, and here at Arun District Council that is exactly what we are doing.
In 2020 we declared a climate emergency and as a council we pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030. To help us reach this target we have now adopted our Carbon Neutral Strategy and Climate action and biodiversity work plan, you can find out more about these at https://www.arun.gov.uk/climate-change .
We are also investing in our greenspaces and have completed our 1st year of tree planting as part of our 10-year tree planting strategy, with 1,575 trees (75 standard, 1,500 whips) having been planted so far. https://www.arun.gov.uk/tree-planting-strategy-2021-2031
Wildflower meadows are continuing to be maintained and expanded across the district by 10% per year, we currently have around 6500 square metres across Arun.
We are also supporting West Sussex County Council in the UK’s largest council-led electric vehicle (EV) ChargePoint deployment project. This project will see thousands of chargepoints installed across West Sussex within the next ten years.
