Did you know? You can report noise issues to us on-line …

noise If you are suffering with persistent noise that is disturbing your wellbeing and enjoyment at home, you can report it to us.

The nuisance noise could be from neighbours, house and car alarms, loudspeakers in the street, drilling, hammering, car repairs, or excessive dog barking.

Construction companies or contractors should take all reasonable steps to control noise and to work at certain times – usually from 7.30am to 6pm. Should they need operate outside these times, they must apply for a special permit from the local council.

For neighbours, there are laws in place that state the maximum acceptable amount of noise level (decibels) during 'night hours' between 11pm and 7am.

If a complaint is valid, we will write to the person you complained about and tell them a complaint has been made. We will not tell them who complained.

We'll ask them to take steps to control the noise. We'll also write to you to confirm what we have done.

If the noise does not improve, you would need to keep a diary, noting down the times you hear noise and what it is. This will enable our officers to review and decide if we can take action.
