Over 98% of our food businesses achieve a rating over three or higher, and in most cases, we don’t need to use enforcement powers to achieve any improvements required.

Enforcement powers include notices to make improvements and close premises, and powers to prosecute through the courts, we are pleased to say this type of action only needs to be used very rarely.

Our Environmental Health Officers also have powers to seize unfit food, and recently over a tonne of food was seized from a business because it had not been prepared or processed as required by the regulations. An application was then made to the courts to condemn the food, which was agreed, and the food has been disposed of, removing it from the food chain and protecting the public.
