You will probably have realised from all our recent features, it's National Empty Homes week!
The council have dedicated officers who work on bringing all empty homes in the district back into use.
We have an empty property strategy which we use to engage, encourage, advise and if necessary use enforcement powers with owners to make their empty homes habitable.
There is a range of work we will look at in order to improve homes, such as clearing vastly overgrown gardens that are causing a statutory nuisance, securing homes that are being accessed by unauthorised persons and enforcing the sale of property, or in a worst case scenario, demolishing homes that are beyond economical repair.
