On 8 November 2024, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of World Town Planning Day, highlighting how effective and proper planning can transform lives for the better.

At Arun District Council we recognise the challenges of delivering development, however we are committed to creating more vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive developments in the Arun District. This year’s theme “homes start with planning” emphasizes the vital role of planning and planners in delivering high quality housing that meets the needs of our communities. This means ensuring our homes are well-designed, accessible, and resilient against the impacts of climate change.

At Arun District Council we have helped families and individuals have their own place to live by delivering over 800 affordable homes since 2020.

But our work doesn’t stop at housing. Planners are contributing to revitalising town centres, developing better open spaces, creating connected public footpaths and roads, and addressing key infrastructure constraints, including collecting funds from developers that are put towards improving community facilities.

Since 2020, over £1.1mil has been received by town and parish councils to deliver local infrastructure through the Community Infrastructure Levy.

Keep an eye out for news on how to have your say on the new Arun Local Plan review, which sets out the district’s vision for growth and will identify how we intend to balance the best interests of our communities whilst delivering the housing and jobs we need.
