Council cracks down on litter and dog fouling

Anyone caught dropping litter or not picking up after their dog in the district will face an on-the-spot-fine, under a new scheme being trialled.
The 12-month street scene enforcement trial is being introduced this week and won’t cost the taxpayer a penny.
It will be run by enforcement company EH Commercial Services Ltd, which has been running a similar trial for East Hampshire District Council with impressive results.
In that district, the team have had an average 87% payment rate and a 99% success rate for prosecutions. The funding will come directly from fines, rather than from Arun District Council’s budget.
The Council will liaise with the team to target problem-areas and offenders face a maximum penalty of £1,000.
