Big butterfly count - get involved!

Butterflies 2023 Our Foreshores Officer, Charlie Thwaites, could not believe her eyes this week when she spotted several different species of butterfly on one bush, see the picture - and she didn't capture all of them!

Charlie said "we are not the only things that like visiting the beach as the other day on some blackberry bushes running along the foreshore, I was lucky to see lots of different butterflies drinking nectar".

If you are looking for free activities, why not get the kids invloved with the Big Butterfly Count? See what butterflies you can find whilst visiting the beach, spend 15 minutes looking for butterflies and moths and record what you find.

Go to Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count online and download a butterfly ID chart, record what you see and enter your results by the 6 August on their website or use the free App.
