Bedford Street, Bognor Regis - road closure
Our Building Control officers have completed an external inspection of a building which was previously occupied by Wilko on Bedford Street, Bognor Regis and have identified potentially significant external structural issues. In the interest of public safety, there will be a full closure of the section of Bedford Street including pavements running alongside the length of the building. There will be no access for either vehicular or pedestrian through-traffic while work can be arranged for further inspections and any associated works. Traffic management will be in place either side of the closure to allow traffic to use the northern and southern section of the road in both directions as far as possible.
All parking spaces and loading bays along Bedford Road will not be accessible and there may be some movement of the local bus stops to accommodate traffic management.
The issues with the building do not have an impact on London Road or adjoining buildings and Morrisons car park will remain open, but pedestrian access from the car park along the current footpath to Morrisons will be closed.
It is not currently possible to confirm how long the road will be closed while emergency works are undertaken by the property owner, but West Sussex County Council recommends people plan their journey accordingly.
