Arun Youth Aqua Centre relocated

arun youth aqua centre relocation The Arun Youth Aqua Centre [AYAC] has been relocated as part of the planned work to prepare the site for the new Littlehampton Leisure Centre.

With the help of Arun District Council and Willmott Dixon Construction Limited, the AYAC will now operate from the east of the Sea Road site.

The move has been welcomed by the club as it means that the boats will have easier access to the sea via Hendon Avenue.

The project will see improvements to the facilities, including new fencing donated by Willmott Dixon, replacement changing rooms and storage, and new anchorage points to secure the boats.

Philippa Dart, Director of Services at Arun District Council, said: “I am extremely pleased to see AYAC's facilities upgraded; the organisation is run entirely by volunteers and helps young people who are keen to learn to sail. These improvements will allow the club to continue for years to come.”

Roger Forsdyke, Managing Director at Willmott Dixon, said: “We understand the importance of the AYAC and its positive impact on the local community. We are delighted to be part of this project and to be providing the club with upgraded facilities, which includes the donation of fencing and new changing facilities.

“We pride ourselves on leaving a lasting legacy in local communities and we look forward to starting on site to create the new leisure centre.”

Roger Elliman, from the AYAC, said: “The Arun Youth Aqua Centre is delighted to be moving back to a location close to where it began 40 years ago. Over these years, the AYAC has maintained its place in Littlehampton, giving hundreds of young people and their families countless hours of fun on the water in a safe and affordable environment.

“We are very grateful to Arun District Council and Willmott Dixon for providing the relocated facility, and also to the local parish councils for their support. We are confident the Centre will continue to provide fun and sailing knowledge to young people for the next 40 years.”

The new sailing season begins on 7 May so to book a place at AYAC, or for more information, visit www.ayac.org.uk or call 01903 714753.
