Arun Wellbeing Service to carry on the good work

Arun Wellbeing Service to carry on the good work The Arun Wellbeing Service will continue to help residents in the district to stay healthy after funding was agreed for a further five years.

We have delivered the service since 2009 as part of the West Sussex Wellbeing programme – a partnership between West Sussex Public Health and the seven district and borough councils in the county.

In this time, the team has helped thousands of residents to make lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing, including taking up gentle exercise, stopping smoking, cutting back on alcohol and eating more healthily.

A grant of £414,024 from West Sussex County Council has been secured as part of the five-year agreement, which was supported by Arun District Council’s Housing and Wellbeing Committee last week.

Councillor Jacky Pendleton, Chair of the Housing and Wellbeing Committee and Deputy Leader of the Council, said:

“The Arun Wellbeing Service plays a vital role in addressing local health inequalities and supporting residents to lead a happier and healthier life. I’ve seen first-hand the real difference the service makes to people’s wellbeing so we’re delighted to support the service and see that great work continue for at least another five years.”

Of the funding, £30,000 has been earmarked to deliver a falls prevention programme with Age UK and Freedom Leisure, and a further £10,000 per year for Freedom Leisure to run an activities programme in targeted areas.

Free support on offer from Arun Wellbeing includes the WISE Weight Information and Sensible Eating course, help with stopping smoking, alcohol reduction support and information sessions for people with pre-diabetes to reduce their risk of going on to develop Type two diabetes.
