Arun successfully retains its six Green Flag Award-winning park status!
Six parks in Arun have successfully retained the internationally recognised and coveted Green Flag Award – thanks to the hard work of the Council’s Greenspace Team, contractors Tivoli and dedicated volunteers.
Green Flags will continue to fly high at Brookfield Park, Mewsbrook Park and Norfolk Gardens in Littlehampton, Marine Park Gardens in Aldwick, Old Rectory Gardens in Felpham and Hotham Park in Bognor Regis.
The Green Flag Award Scheme sets the international benchmark standard for the management and maintenance of parks across the United Kingdom and around the world.
The award is a sign to the public that the winning parks are -

- Supporting landscape heritage and biodiversity
- Involving the community
Councillor David Edwards, Chairman of the Environment Committee at Arun District Council, expressed his sincere thanks to all those involved in caring for our award-winning parks, specifically the Council’s Greenspace Team and Tivoli staff, as well as all the local businesses operating in the parks and an army of dedicated greenspace volunteers.
He added: “We are delighted to have been able to retain our six Green Flag Award-winning parks in our district. They each offer different characteristics, serving as valuable amenities for our residents and tourists but also havens for wildlife which helps to enhance biodiversity.
“I would like to congratulate everyone in our Greenspace and Property and Estates Teams, and Tivoli staff, who all work so hard to ensure our parks are maintained to such a high standard and continue to be welcoming and safe for all visitors.
“Credit must also go to the many volunteers who dedicate their time to working alongside the Greenspace Team ensuring our parks are places all our residents and tourists wish to visit.
“The operators and owners of cafés, golf courses and miniature railways must also be credited for providing excellent services to all visitors and their contributions towards this success is greatly appreciated.
“This achievement in the context of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic is particularly impressive where staffing and volunteering have been under pressure. We have seen in the last couple of years how our communities increasingly value their parks. This council is dedicated to ensuring our parks continue to offer the best value to our residents and visitors for years to come. Parks provide so much to our nation’s health and wellbeing, especially during Covid and again now with the cost-of-living crisis.
“These awards certainly go a long way in recognising the substantial efforts made by so many individuals.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
