Arun responds to Government rethink of housing algorithm

Arun District Council welcomes the Government announcement that it has significantly amended its proposals for calculating how much housing each local authority should provide for. Had the original proposals been taken forward, it could have seen Arun’s requirements double to over 2000 homes per annum. The Council is pleased therefore, that the Government has listened to our objections and those of many other Councils.
Cllr Martin Lury, Cabinet Member for Planning adds: “A note of caution is still required as the amended proposals will see a significant rise in housing provision figures for the country’s top 20 cities. This includes Brighton, which is sandwiched between the sea and the South Downs National Park. If Brighton is unable to accommodate all of its future housing requirements it could ask other Councils including Arun to assist.”
