Arun District residents vote to leave

Arun residents turned out in force to vote in the EU referendum. With a record breaking district turn out of 77.86%, Arun was above the national average of 72%.
The result for this district was 62.43% in favour of leaving the European Union which reflects the national result, with 52% of the UK electorate voting to leave.
The referendum count was managed by Arun’s Counting Officer, Nigel Lynn and was held overnight on 23 June at the Arun Leisure Centre in Felpham.
Nigel Lynn said “We are delighted with the turn out in this election. It is good to see democracy in action. We were prepared for a 75 to 80% turn out and our estimate was accurate. The count ran smoothly and efficiently and the result was declared slightly earlier than originally predicted.
“I would like to thank the hardworking presiding officers, poll clerks, counting team and the election team and staff at Arun District Council Offices, many of whom supported this poll. Our partners at Freedom Leisure hosted the count and contributed to the high levels of efficiency.”
