Arun District Council marks VJ Day 2020

The Chairman and Vice Chairman of Arun District Council marked the anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) day by laying wreaths and observing a silence on Saturday 15 August.
Cllr Mrs Amanda Worne, Chairman of the District attended the War Memorial in Littlehampton to pay her respects and mark the occasion by laying a wreath. Cllr Mrs Worne said: “It was an absolute privilege to be able to attend the war memorial and take a moment to reflect and lay a wreath to commemorate this occasion. Of course, with the current pandemic restrictions in place, events to mark this day and VE day earlier this year were very different, but no less important in ensuring that we remember the sacrifices made.”
In Bognor Regis, at the War Memorial outside of the Town Hall, Vice Chairman of Arun District Council, Cllr Jim Brooks attended and also laid a wreath and observed a silence as a mark of commemoration. Cllr Brooks said: “We must never forget what previous generations gave in order that we might have live as we do. Ensuring that generations to come continue to be aware is vital. By laying a wreath on behalf of the District Council we signify our gratitude and respect for those that fought for our freedom.”
