Arun District Council awarded over £17,000 to fund innovative energy project

Arun District Council awarded over £17,000 to fund innovative energy project

Arun District Council has been awarded a charitable grant of £17,600 to deliver an innovative energy project which will help tackle fuel poverty across the District.

The funding comes from a nationwide programme designed and administered by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action (NEA). The Technical Innovation Fund aims to facilitate community-level trials of innovative solutions utilising measures not traditionally within the scope of current fuel poverty and retrofit efficiency programmes.

The project aims to upgrade heating systems of households in the District that are likely to find it difficult to pay for such an improvement and who struggle to pay their fuel bills.

Helen Cooper, Energy Efficiency Officer at Arun District Council, said: “We are delighted to be awarded this grant to help the Council to work with its partners to deliver programmes which will assist with tackling fuel poverty throughout the Arun District.”

Jenny Saunders OBE, Chief Executive of NEA, said: “This is a new and exciting programme for NEA. We know that the solutions to tackling fuel poverty require innovation and need to be tailored to local communities and this fund has given us the opportunity to test out a range of solutions.”

Councillor Roger Elkins, Cabinet Member for Housing at Arun District Council, said: “Supporting those in the District who need help is one of the Council’s key priorities so I am delighted this funding will assist Arun with meeting this aim.

“I would encourage anyone living in the District who is struggling to pay their fuel bills to get in touch with the Council’s Energy Efficiency Officer for advice and guidance.

“There are also plenty of hints and tips available on the Arun District Council website on how to heat your home more efficiently, which could help you save money.”

Statistics from NEA reveal 4.5 million UK households are unable to afford to live in a warm, dry home.
