10 weeks until COP26 | Latest news

Today marks the start of the 10 week countdown to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). COP26 will be pivotal in accelerating action towards the goal of the Paris Agreement and the UN framework Convention on Climate Change. Our fight against climate change is now reaching a tipping point and if emissions are not reduced in the next decade we will reach the point of no return; COP26 could likely be our final chance to ensure this does not happen. The summit will run from 31 October - 12 November, with aims including: 

1. To secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach 
2. Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats 
3. Mobilise finance 
4. Work together to deliver net carbon zero

 

Like other local authorities across the country, Arun is committed to a climate neutral target and are keen to take a leading role in the UK's fight against climate change. Our strategy and action plan is being prepared to support the objectives of COP26.
