Helping someone with their Council Tax or Business Rates

Sometimes you may need help with your Council Tax or Business Rates.

You can ask a friend or relative to help you but unless you give us written permission, we cannot talk to them about your account.

Power of Attorney (PoA)

If you are a PoA we will need to see the Power of Attorney document.

You will need to provide us with the:

  • Account Holders Name
    Account Number (if known)
  • your name, address phone number and email address

Once we have updated the account, all letters we would normally send to the account holder will be sent to you as PoA and we will be able to discuss the account with you.

Send us the PoA documents

Appointee

If you are not able to manage your affairs, you can appoint someone to act for you.

Your appointee must be at least 18 and can be an individual or an organisation.

To apply

You'll need to complete the CT or BR appointee application form [pdf] 91KB and return it to us by post or email.
